WHAT I DO

My job is to help you and your business, communicate your specific message to your customers in a memorable and impactful way. That means creating the right mix of imagery and words that will inspire your audience to take action—whether it’s to hire your firm, buy your product, or attend your event. A layout with pretty pictures is nice, but a strategic concept with top-notch execution is far better. From my start in advertising and in-house creative to my time as a freelance graphic designer, creative consultant and art director, I think my strength is an ability to empathize with the target customer to deliver a graphic message—copy and visuals—that makes its mark.

I have over 25 years experience in delivering graphic solutions for a range of organizations, from large corporations and universities, to marketing agencies, small businesses, and non-profits. They have ranged from sport to insurance, health and bodywork to classic motorcycles, children’s furniture to technology, publishers to transportation. Many clients work with me individually; other times I team up with marketers, copywriters, print and graphic vendors or web developers on jobs that require a team approach. My headquarters is located in Boulder, Colorado where I work for local businesses as well as companies around the country, from New York to LA.

THE PROCESS

First, let’s talk. Tell me about your project, your target, and what you want to communicate. I’m interested in your goals and objectives, your company’s capabilities and personality. This will help clarify your project and how we can strategically communicate your message. I’ll send you a proposal in writing (well, actually by email). When you’re ready to get started, the process looks like this:

DISCOVERY

In this phase, I gather more information about your industry and take a look at what your competitors are doing—and not doing. If you already have an established brand, I review your current marketing materials to match your look and feel as well as get a sense of how we can expand on and further crystallize your brand. Information gleaned in the discovery phase sets the direction for the initial comps.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Here’s where the pencil meets the paper (or the mouse meets the pad). I’ll work up multiple creative concepts that are thoughtful solutions to your design problem—options that are strategically designed to visually communicate your message. I typically like to choose two to three specific directions.

REFINEMENT

From among the concepts presented, you’ll choose your favorite idea. Then we’ll work on refining it through a series of iterations until it’s just right.

FINAL PRODUCTION

When you’ve approved the design, I create the final artwork files and deliver them to you and/or your printer or other vendor. If needed, I contact vendors for quotes and manage the printing process for you. I have a select number of vendors that I use whose quality of work I know and trust. All prices are subject to your approval.
